Mix it Up

June 1, 2017 Guest User

We at MDG have once again found ourselves agreeing with Jack Sparrow that rules are more like guidelines. We are maybe not even surprised that sometimes from the unheard of arises the no-brainer. Not only is pizza better with Ranch dressing, but we are also mixing metals in our interiors. Rose gold and chrome, yellow gold and silver, the possibilities are endless. Well, within reason. Below, you'll find some of our favorite tips for mixing metals.

1)      Choose one metal as dominate and one as an accent. If you're unsure of the ratio, 70/30 might be a good place to start. A warm metal, like brass or gold, is a bold pop of color with cool metals like silver.

2)      Mix your textures, too! Antiqued gold compliments sleek chrome and matte silver pairs with hammered copper.

3)      If you're worried about mixing metals and textures with other colors and patterns in the rest of the room, start with making metals the focus and decorate the rest of the room in neutrals.

Juicy Fruit

May 18, 2017 Guest User

Here we are in Denver, still smoothing aloe vera on our shoulders after Mother's Day weekend spent in the sun and prepping for another snowstorm this weekend. This city is something else, isn't it? While we need the moisture desperately, we at MDG can't help but groan as we shake off our snow boots for one last chilly romp. We want to eat popsicles, not be popsicles.

Luckily, a quick and easy fix is inspired by the tropical fruit section at the grocery store. The pineapple is associated with wealth and welcoming friends into our homes (and let's pretend they mean immaterial wealth) not to mention a little summer bevvy we like to call piƱa colada. The fruit is showing up in minuscule prints as well as bold wallpaper. Its shape is almost impossibly whimsical and classic at the same time and can transform a small space like a bar cart or completely refresh a table top set for a dinner party.

While we watch the ominous snow clouds roll down the Rockies, scroll down and check out some of our favorite pineapple decor items just in time for summer.
