MDG's Holiday Wish List: The Ladies

December 1, 2016 Guest User

We at MDG know that some of us were born to shop and others are loath to it. Some of us, when asked what we'd like for the holidays, draw a blank and others procure an alphabetized list. We would like to make it a little easier for you, whether you're shopping for someone special or for ideas. Over the next four weeks, whether you're shopping for the ladies, gentlemen, kiddos or the home, you'll find some of our favorite things here. Enjoy!

FIrst, we have the Comfy Girl. She loves a snuggle, drinks her coffee like it's a lifeline and is never without a cozy T-shirt in any and all colors.

Next is the Glitzy Girl, who likes a little sparkle, a fair amount of shimmer. Pour her a glass of champagne while she watches The September Issue and come to terms with the fact that you will have glitter stuck to your cheek after she hugs you.

The Edgy Girl's middle name is Sass and will wear hot pink lipstick to the beach. She probably puts sriracha on everything and will absolutely steal your favorite jeans for her own.

Finally, our Mod Girl covers her ears with huge headphones and says black-and-white like it's one color. She has her quirks and that's why you love her, thank you very much.

Giving Back is the New Black Friday

November 25, 2016 Guest User

Black Friday used to be just the best excuse to get a favorite fancy coffee drink in the hugest size. It was the first day where it was officially acceptable to put on holiday music, and a nap before noon was imminent. Electronics were never cheaper, cutting in line was the norm for the day and glitter was everywhere.

We all know this still goes on, but we at MDG also know we aren’t alone in thinking that Black Friday has, in recent years, been taken to another level. Big stores are opening earlier and earlier, some opening now at Thanksgiving dinnertime. They stay open until the wee hours, if they close at all. People getting trampled to get a discounted TV? Madness.

Some stores are happily breaking with tradition by not opening at all on Black Friday. REI is collectively asking us out, encouraging us to leave those florescent lights in our dust and to #OptOutside. Others, like Patagonia, are donating 100% of their sales today to small environmentalist groups.  Small Business Saturday is a great alternative to the zoo that is Black Friday. Denver-based Feral Mountain Co. was just selected by GearJunkie.com as one of the Best Independent Gear Shops in the USA. They also aren’t open today and recently opened their online shop, just in time for Cyber Monday. (Psst… be sure to check out our shop too.)

However you choose to partake (or not partake) in these shopping days, we at MDG wish you a happy holiday weekend!
