Now that you know our top 5 countertop materials let’s talk Pros and Cons.

  • Quartz

    • PROS - Hot pots, serrated knives, and abrasive pads are no match for Quartz countertops. It closely resembles the look of stone. Coming in a multitude of colors, to match your style.

    • CONS- Edges tend to chip if they are not rounded, and will require a professional to fix.

  • Granite

    • PROS- Very Unique material, each cut is different. Studies show it withstands Hot Pots, Serrated Knives, and abrasive pads. If you polish or matte your countertops they can resist MOST stains.

    • CONS- Just like Quartz the straight edges can chip and need to be repaired by a professional. You may need to reseal every so often.

  • Soapstone

    • PROS- Soapstone is non-porous it’s also incredibly sanitary. It is a little softer than Quartz and is resistant to heat.

    • CONS- Soapstone is very easy to scratch and scuff but can be buffed out with mineral oil.

  • Porcelain

    • PROS-No countertop is 100% stain resistant but Porcelain comes really close because it is non-porous meaning liquids do not absorb.

    • CONS- Ceramic Knives may scratch

  • Laminate

    • PROS- Easy to install and Cost-efficient.

    • CONS- Although it’s cost-efficient they will have to be replaced more regularly compared to other heavier materials. Laminate countertops overtime suffer from delimitation (where the materials tend to curl up and lift from themself) Once this occurs it’s more than likely you will have to replace the whole countertop. It’s easily scratched and try to avoid placing hot items directly onto the surface.
