What Wood You Do

September 7, 2017 Guest User

Some of us at MDG were not the only folks who took advantage of the long weekend and found themselves winding through the Rocky Mountains on the way to paddle boarding adventures and scoops of honey lavender ice cream. We left the heat of the dog days of summer behind us and turned down the music as the signal went in and out. We shaded our eyes to the sun and craned our heads out the window, searching for our favorite runs on the soon-to-be-snowy ski slopes.

Aside from the first of the aspen leaves to turn lemon-yellow, the most sure-fire sign that fall is coming is the smell of the trees. It's a smell of smoke, and wet leaves, and cold cheeks. It's a smell that has you reaching for a flannel, that gets you thinking that the living room is too quiet without football on, and you go through jars of nutmeg like it's oxygen.

Incorporating reclaimed wood into your home is a beautiful way to begin to capture that fall feeling. These pieces have already been worn and loved and made unique before being re-purposed, giving them a special bit of rustic. Coffee tables, bed frames, serving trays, and wall hangings are all easy options, while the addition of greenery or even modern materials will suit every taste.

Below are some of our favorites.

Total Eclipse of the Hearth

August 24, 2017 Guest User

We at MDG, along with the rest of the country, donned our ever-fashionable eclipse glasses and spent Monday afternoon gazing up at the sky while the moon threw some serious shade at Mother Earth. We felt the heat leave our cheeks as the sun's rays were slowly blocked and we tried to wrap our heads around what was happening 92.96 million miles away. We will continue the trend and look onward as well as upward into the not-so-distant future when our fireplaces will warm us, rather than just be a really annoying part of our homes to dust.

While we keep an eye on our weather apps for the temperature to drop below 65 degrees, we can allow ourselves to start fantasizing about our fireplace decor. Do we prep for a wood-burning winter or do we nix the mess and fill the firebox with candles or ornaments? Do we cover the mantel with seasonal blooms in vases or photos of our loved ones? Fireplaces can fluctuate from the backdrop of the room to the loud and proud focal point, depending on what we add to them.

Below, you'll find some of our favorite goodies for every nook and cranny of your fireplace.
